14-year-old steals car while it’s warming up, police say
MADISON, Wis. — A teenager is facing charges after police said he stole a car that was warming up on Madison’s west side.
Madison police said a 33-year-old Madison man was warming up his car in the 4600 block of Verona Road Saturday at 10:15 p.m.
According to the report, the vehicle owner left the car for a few minutes and it was gone when he came back.
Police said the stolen car’s description was shared with law enforcement and an officer spotted the vehicle two hours later on Fish Hatchery Road. Police pulled over the driver, who turned out to be 14 years old.
The boy was taken to the Juvenile Reception Center, police said. He was arrested on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent and operating without a valid license.
Police said the vehicle was unlocked while it was left to warm up.
