13-year-old steals truck from Dane County airport, police say
MADISON, Wis. — The teen who was behind the wheel of a stolen truck was apprehended Wednesday afternoon, police said.
The Madison Police Department said a 49-year-old man had left his truck unlocked in a lot near the Dane County Regional Airport with a spare key inside.
Police said a deputy attempted to stop the stolen truck at about 4 p.m., which was occupied by two teens. The driver was so short he could barely be seen over the steering wheel, the report said. The joyriders didn’t stop, but they dumped the truck on Windom Way and ran.
MPD officers were in the area on an unrelated call, and the 13-year-old driver was arrested when he coincidentally ran near one of them, according to the report. His accomplice got away.
The boy was taken to the Juvenile Reception Center after being arrested on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent.
