1 killed, 2 injured in truck vs. semi crash, officials say
WILLOW SPRINGS TOWNSHIP, Wis. — One person was killed and two were injured Tuesday morning in a pickup truck vs. semi-truck crash in Lafayette County, officials said.
Lafayette County sheriff’s deputies were notified around 11 a.m. of a head-on crash between a semitrailer and pickup truck in the 18000 block of Tibbits Road in the township of Willow Springs, according to a release.
The driver of the pickup was trapped inside the truck and there were multiple injuries reported, officials said.
The 2013 Ford F150, driven by 25-year-old Austin T. Shellhause, of Lanark, Illinois, was going east on Tibbits Road when the F150 crossed the center of the road into the westbound lane at the crest of a small hill, investigators said. The pickup truck swerved into the path of a westbound 1997 Peterbilt semi-truck hauling a grain trailer.
The driver, 64-year-old Steven H. Jones, of Rewey, tried to avoid hitting the pickup truck, but was unable to do so, according to the release.
Shellhause was taken to UW Hospital by helicopter, where he died from injuries he suffered in the crash, officials said. A passenger in Shellhause’s pickup truck, 35-year-old Kyle J. Mulcahy, of Darlington, and Jones were taken to Upland Hills Hospital in Dodgeville with minor injuries.
This is the fourth fatal motor vehicle crash in Lafayette County this year, officials said.
