1 dead in apparent street racing crash
One person died in a traffic crash Wednesday afternoon on Hwy. 53 near Holmen.
It happened about 3:40 p.m.
Holmen police say two vehicles were headed southbound on Highway 53, south of State Road 35, and were weaving in and out of traffic.
Police said the driver of one of the vehicles lost control at a high rate of speed and went into the median, causing the vehicle to roll several times.
The vehicle then struck an oncoming car in the northbound lane.
The driver of the vehicle that lost control was ejected from the car and died from their injuries.
The two people in the northbound vehicle that was struck received minor injuries and were released from the scene.
Police said the vehicle that lost control was a 1934 Chevrolet roadster. Witnesses told police that it was racing a black vehicle, unknown make or model.
Holmen police are asking anyone with information to contact their department at (608) 785-5942.
The names of those involved are being withheld until family can be notified.
Traffic on Highway 53 was backed up for several hours as crews worked to clean-up the crash and investigate.
