John Karcher

Mark KoehnJohn Karcher has been helping southcentral Wisconsin stay "informed, involved and in touch" for more than 20 years at WISC-TV in Madison.

And with a total of more than 25 years of journalism experience under his belt, that makes him one of the most seasoned journalists in Wisconsin and the Midwest.

Karcher plays several different roles at WISC-TV -- anchor, reporter, producer, cheerleader and curmudgeon.

But you probably know him as co-anchor of "News 3 at 6" and "News 3 at 10."

Karcher started at WISC-TV in June of 1981, coming from WSAW-TV in Wausau. Prior to his television work, he was a reporter for WISN-AM in Milwaukee.

Karcher has won several awards from the Associated Press, Milwaukee Press Club and Wisconsin Broadcasters Association. His work has also helped WISC-TV win the Edward R. Murrow Award for coverage of a 1991 butter warehouse fire.

He graduated from Whitefish Bay Dominican High School and served in the U.S. Navy before earning his B.S. at UW-Oshkosh in 1973.

In his spare time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, boating and golfing with his wife, Judy, and children, Kelly, Brian and Matthew.
