MADISON, Wis. -- A change is coming this fall to TVs across southern Wisconsin.Television Wisconsin, Inc., announced Wednesday that UPN14 will become the Madison affiliate for My Network TV, the new television network being launched this fall by Twentieth Television. The switch will be effective on Tuesday, Sept. 5.UPN14's affiliation change was brought on by the announcement in January that the WB and UPN networks were being discontinued and were merging to form a new network, called The CW.That news was followed by Twentieth Television's public unveiling of My Network TV.The introduction of two new networks gave TV stations across the country – including UPN14 – two options."After carefully comparing The CW and My Network TV, it became more and more clear that My Network TV presented us with the most intriguing possibilities," said Television Wisconsin Executive Vice President David Sanks. "It helped to make our decision easier that News Corp (which owns Twentieth Television), with its impressive track record of the Fox Network, Fox News Channel, and FX, has clearly shown that they know how to build a network."Sanks said that Television Wisconsin's commitment to local programming is one of the major reasons My Network TV stood out as the preferred choice."The CW is going to be programming many more hours a week while at the same time, being very strict in regards to network pre-emptions. In short, they will be a more traditional network," Sanks said. "Going with My Network TV, which will program roughly two hours a night over six nights, allows us to continue and probably increase our coverage and commitment to Badger sports, local news, and other local programming. In an increasingly crowded television universe, it's localism that makes you stand out.”Initial programming offered by My Network TV will include hour-long scripted dramas in the internationally successful "telenovela" genre. Other upcoming scripted and reality programs are in various stages of development.Madison's My Network TV -- as UPN14 before it -- will continue to be available on channel 14 to Charter Cable and DirecTV subscribers, while also accessible on channel 32 to anyone with a digital television receiver.Related Link::
