  • Hometown: Always a tough question to answer because I moved a lot growing up. I consider Madison my hometown.

  • Q: What is your favorite part about living in Madison?
    A: That every season brings something special to look forward to. The Farmer's Market, the Union Terrace, the Arboretum in the fall and candlelight cross country skiing in the winter. The view of the Capitol at night from John Nolen Drive. Things no other city can match.

    Q: What is the biggest news story that you've covered?
    A: Local reaction to 9-11

    Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
    A: Just about anything outdoors, baking, gardening, practicing piano, trying new restaurants and finding time to read something interesting.

    Q: What is your family life like? Significant other, married, children?
    A: I'm married and we have one son….Matthew.

    Q: What is your favorite kind of ice cream?
    A: Mint Chocolate Chip

    Q: What is your favorite place to vacation?
    A: The mountains of Colorado and Charleston, South Carolina where my parents live.

    Q: Who is your hero and why?
    A: My parents. My father is the most accomplished man I've ever known. A Navy SEAL, world traveler, sailor and adventurer with an insatiable curiosity and lust for life. My mom is the rock of our family who always believed my brother and I could do anything.

    Q: What is your favorite sport to play or watch?
    A: Skiing, tennis & golf to play and NFL football to watch

    Q: If you could possess one superhuman power, what would it be?
    A: To make myself invisible

    Q: What are you really bad at that you’d love to be great at?
    A: Singing!

    Q: What is your most memorable travel experience?
    A: Moving to Geneva, Switzerland when I was in 5th grade and then moving to Hong Kong three years later. I graduated from High School in Hong Kong.

    Q: What is the worst job you have ever had?
    A: Waitressing at Ponderosa. Always tip your waitresses well. They work hard!

    Q: Who would you most like to interview alive or dead, and why?
    A: The explorers Lewis & Clark. I'd love to know what they would think of the world today.

    Q: What is your favorite tradition around the holidays?
    A: Taking a walk at night in the snow to see the Christmas lights.

    Q: What is your favorite movie of all time?
    A: Forrest Gump

    Q: What is your favorite book of all time?
    A: Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen, The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett, and The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch

    Q: What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
    A: Don't sweat the small stuff

    Q: If you could relive any moment, what would that be?
    A: The day my son was born. It was a long labor…32 hours. When he popped out, Matthew didn't cry which was scary at first. The doctor handed him to me and he just stared at me with huge eyes that were as blue as the ocean. I still get goosebumps thinking of that moment.

    Q: Where were you when Sept. 11, 2001 occurred?
    A: Working on the morning show and getting ready to do the local cut-in when CBS broke in. I remember Rob Starbuck saying to me at that moment, "I think this is going to be a day we'll never forget." He was right.
