MILWAUKEE -- A slow-moving winter storm is expected to leave up to 11 inches of snow in its wake along Lake Michigan by Wednesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for southeast and east-central Wisconsin on onday night through Tuesday night.

Forecasters expect 7 to 11 inches of snow near Lake Michigan with 5 to 8 inches farther inland.

A lake effect snow warning has been posted for Douglas and Bayfield counties through Monday afternoon.

While the eastern portions of the state will likely bear the brunt of the storm, other parts of southern Wisconsin could see several inches of snow. The NWS has issued a winter weather advisory for southwestern Wisconsin from noon on Monday until 6 p.m on Tuesday and for south-central Wisconsin from 6 p.m. on Monday through 6 a.m. on Wednesday.

WISC-TV meteorologist Haddie McLean said that Monday will be mostly cloudy with light snow or flurries. Additional accumulations of up to 1 inch are possible. Highs will reach about 27 degrees.

By Monday night, occassional snow is likely with accumulations of 1 to 3 inches possible, McLean said. The overnight low with dip to 19 degrees.

Tuesday will be mostly cloudy, windy and cold with occasional snow. She said that 3 to 5 inches of additional accumulation is possible through evening. Total storm accumulation of 4 to 9 inches is expected through Tuesday night, with the heaviest amounts southeast of Madison and lightest amounts closer toward Wisconsin Dells.

She said that blowing and drifting snow might make travel difficult, especially Tuesday afternoon and night.
