Snow Advisory Issued For Southern Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. -- The National Weather Service has issued a snow advisory that stretches from Dane County to areas south and east from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.Meteorologists said that snow will fall across southern Wisconsin Friday, with the heaviest accumulations southeast of a line from Fond du Lac to Dodgeville, where 4 to 6 inches of accumulation is likely.Snow accumulations of 7 inches are possible near the Milwaukee metro area.The snow, which might be heavy at times, is expected to spread over southern Wisconsin Friday morning, especially midmorning to early afternoon. Snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are expected across parts of southwest Wisconsin, including Madison.A snow advisory is issued when 3 to 6 inches of accumulations are expected in 12 hours or less with winds less than 25 mph. Drivers should be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibilities and should use caution while driving.
Snow Removal Costs Climb In Madison
Madison City Streets Superintendent Al Schumacher estimated that the cleanup of snow and ice in December has cost city taxpayers another $500,000.Streets crews got an emergency $625,000 recently from the Common Council to shore up the 2007 budget. But the extra $500,000 is on top of that for additional snow removal this month.Next month, a new budget for snow removal begins with some $4.7 million budgeted for the 2008 season.
