Wayward dolphin trapped in creek
Police trying to rescue animal
A wayward dolphin has been spotted in a southern Brooklyn creek, and police are trying to get the animal to safety.
The New York Police Department Emergency Service Unit and members of the Harbor Patrol are in the Bath Beach section of Brooklyn trying to rescue the dolphin along Coney Island Creek.
The NYPD has already moved a boom flotation that serves as a retainer. The NYPD is hoping that the adjustment of the boom will be the opening the dolphin needs to find the harbor in the midst of a low tide.
The state of the dolphin's health is not yet clear, but the fact that it is wandering near the shore could be an indication of a fatal illness.
