Vegas Q&A: What's The Best Golf Course?

Question: I would like to know your recommendation for a nice, but possibly reasonable, golf course for my husband. It's our 20th anniversary this June, and we'll be taking a trip out, probably in July. I'd like to surprise him with reservations. He's a wonderful man who has loved me and put up with mood swings for 22 years, so I'll splurge on the cost a bit. Just give me some good options, please.

Answer: Boy, are you asking the wrong guy about this. My experience with golf is limited to courses with windmills.
However, I know golfers and have canvassed their opinions about the best courses in Vegas. This is what they say:
Shadow Creek is probably the best course in town, designed in part by casino impresario Steve Wynn. With stunning scenery, a challenging layout and pampering at every turn, it's one of those places golf fanatics dream about. Not surprisingly, it's also the most expensive course in town; don't be shocked at greens fees in excess of $500.
Out at Lake Las Vegas you'll find two exceptional courses -- Reflection Bay, designed by Jack Nicklaus, and The Falls designed by Tom Weiskopf, names that will be familiar to true fans of the sport. Both are moderately priced -- $135 to $260 depending on the time of year and if you're a guest of one of the hotels in the area. The scenery out there is breathtaking. If I golfed, this is probably where I'd go.
Lots of golf enthusiasts also love Royal Links. Just like Vegas hotels replicate famous landmarks (Eiffel Tower, the Sphinx, etc.), Royal Links replicates famous British Open courses. It's also a relative bargain.
Finally, it's hard not to talk about Bali Hai, the luxury golf resort on the Strip just south of Mandalay Bay. With GPS-equipped golf carts and opulent touches everywhere, it's probably more about being treated well than actually golfing, although most people like the courses as well.
