One Dead, Several Injured On Icy Road Conditions
Authorities Urged Caution

MADISON, Wis. -- The ice and blowing, drifting snow this weekend made for a deadly combination on area roadways.Multiple law enforcement agencies in the Madison area continued to urge people to stay off the roads through Sunday night.Officials said the conditions kept visibility near zero in some areas, WISC-TV reported.The Dane County Sheriff's Department said they have responded to numerous accidents and cars sliding off the roads all day on Sunday, some with serious injuries.In the Town of Dunn, a two-vehicle crash killed one person and injured others.McFarland Police, Fire and EMS, along with Dane County deputies responded to the accident on Highway 51 at Dyreson Road shortly after noon on Sunday.They said that Joanne Ditsch, 40, of Madison, was traveling north on Highway 51 with her 16-year-old daughter when she lost control of her car and crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic.According to police, Ditsch's car was hit by an oncoming SUV driven by Truy Q. Truong, 48, of Stoughton.Ditsch was taken to University of Wisconsin Hospital where she died of her injuries.Authorities said her 16-year-old daughter sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Troung received minor injuries.Police said everyone involved in the crash was wearing their seatbelts.The crash remains under investigation by the Dane County Sheriffs Department.The Dane County Sheriffs Department is urging citizens not to travel until the hazardous road conditions have cleared unless absolutely necessary.If travel is necessary, authorities urged motorists to use extreme caution, keep safe following distances from other vehicles, reduce speed, always wear a seatbelt, and never drink and drive.Making matters worse, MedFlight was unable to respond on Sunday because of the weather, WISC-TV reported.
