The Spam Report: Day #60: "Complement of the season 2014"
We recently got new laptop computers here at work and while I've been able to tweak the settings somewhat, I remain vexed by the small print I see when I log on.
I'm using my reading glasses which have been taped together thanks to my sitting on them a couple months ago and being too stubborn to realize that in my mid-40's, this condition is not going to miraculously go away.
Unless I contact Barrister Richard Henk, who now lives in the Netherlands with his family, but who traveled to London and the Royal Bank of Scotland back in December, 2009 to make a $6 million deposit with Mr. Mohammed Asraf. Apparently, Mr. Asraf subsequently died in an Air India crash in May, 2010. I'm sure with the money he'll share with me, I can find a cure to the middle-age-bad eyesight disease that I have.
Now, I should point out the link Mr. Henk provides in the email that I independently confirmed through Google (since we NEVER click on links in emails from people we don't know) says a Mr. Muhammed Asraf died in that plane crash.
I had to put on the reading glasses to make sure I was seeing that accurately. Yes, Mr. Henk switched "Muhammed" to "Mohammed." I'm guessing the bank would think that matters.
Spelling matters. The fine print matters. Avoiding being scammed matters.
Reading glasses matter... no matter how much I want to fight it.
The moral of today's Spam Report is: Nothing says welcome to the new year like access to millions in an overseas bank account that belongs to a guy who was killed in a plane crash being offered to you by an English lawyer who can't spell his own former client's name accurately.
If you have spam emails you want to warn your neighbors about, feel free to send them to me: email@example.com.
Then, just hit delete.
