Updated: 11:11 am CST January 12,2010

The effort to pass a bill banning sending a text message while driving in Wisconsin got a major push on Monday.

Assembly Majority Leader Tom Nelson, of Kaukauna, said he plans on scheduling a vote on Assembly bill 496 at the beginning of the next session. A version of the legislation has already cleared the state Senate.

The bill prohibits sending texts or emails while driving. Violators face fines of $100 to $400 for a first offense and up to $800 for subsequent violations.
