Construction workers and University of Wisconsin officials held a "topping out" ceremony on Tuesday at the new Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery.

The workers signed the final white beam for the building before it was then placed on top. The event marks the completion of the external framework of the structure.

Work will now start on the building's interior, officials siad.

One of the building's designers said he hopes the building can house life changing science.

"I hope you appreciate what we are creating here," said Rich Lynch, Findorff president. "The type of science, it will really be life changing not only for the community or state but the world."

Completion is set for December 2010, WISC-TV reported.
