Weekend Weather/Weekday Reporter - WISC-TV/Channel3000.com, Southern Wisconsin’s number one station and digital source for news, is looking for a talented journalist who can convey weather and news information effectively.  On the weekend, the right candidate will lead our weather coverage and deliver forecasts for television, digital and social audiences. During the week, this job will include general assignment news reporting. We place a priority on enterprise so knowing how to find and share stories of importance will be an asset.  In both roles, creativity, flexibility, and an interest in digital and social media is a must.  The right candidate doesn’t necessarily have to be a meteorologist but it certainly wouldn’t hurt either.

  • Prepare and deliver urgent, compelling weather forecasts and presentations that connect across all platforms.
  • Aggressively handle severe weather coverage with a priority on clarity and urgency.
  • Turning enterprise stories regularly, including developing ideas, shooting, writing and editing. Our ideal candidate will be both skilled at working with a photographer and as a MMJ depending on the assignment.
  • Delivering engaging live reports, especially in breaking news situations.
  • Innovating and experimenting with the latest technology in digital.  We’d love someone willing to share their ideas on how we can continue to be a leader in digital and social.
  • Building sources within our community, and showing you know how to listen to what our viewers are interested in.

Chief Engineer - Morgan Murphy Media is seeking an experienced television broadcast engineering professional to manage the successful operation of WISC-TV’s technical and building facilities as our Chief Engineer of Broadcast & IT in beautiful Madison Wisconsin (DMA #80).  This is an exciting and rare opportunity to join a thriving, privately held broadcast group with state-of-the-art broadcast and digital facilities.

This position will lead a team responsible for the operation of all television, IT, computer, and building management systems.  Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate prior results in a broadcast engineering leadership role and will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, and detailed working knowledge of IT systems and other technologies of a television station.  Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for managing and participating in the operation of all technical systems, including software, television production systems, television transmitters, building and facilities systems, and IT network systems.
  • Perform and/or supervise general and preventative maintenance of broadcast, IT, and building facilities equipment.
  • Responsible for the creation and management of capital, departmental, and operational budgets
  • Provide strategic planning and input on development of long-range plans for technical system upgrades
  • Provide guidance and support with the development and implementation of all current and future projects and new business initiatives
  • Supervise broadcast and IT staff
  • Provide leadership and guidance to Master Control operators
  • Shall participate in broadcast, production and IT new technology forums and report relevant recommendations to senior leadership
  • Be available for on-call emergencies for technical operations and transmitter repairs when necessary

We are recruiting someone with the following credentials:

  • At least 5-years of experience involved in television broadcast engineering and operations.
  • Degree in Engineering, Electronics Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
  • Working knowledge of television and digital studio broadcast and production systems including:
    • Video server technology
    • Digital signal routing and switching
    • Digital encoding technologies
    • Traffic systems
    • Audio encoding
    • Routing and storage
    • Television editing systems
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with television transmission, microwave, and remote control systems
  • Knowledge of FCC license and reporting requirements
  • Strong computer skills with experience in designing, installing, and maintaining a multi-user Windows-based computer network system
  • Effective supervisory skills with the ability to train and develop future leaders
  • Outstanding communication skills.

News Producer: WISC-TV s actively searching for a News Producer to help lead our team at the #1-rated station in Madison. We need a newsroom leader with a proven ability to deliver a high-quality, high-energy newscast which appeals to our local audience and at the same time is able to engage digital audiences across multiple platforms.

The newscast producer will work with reporters and photographers on story development, and lead our Production staff with technical presentation of the newscast. WKBT News 8 is hiring part-time Floor Crew Members for our Morning (4:30 a.m. – 8:00 a.m.) and Noon (11:15 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.) newscasts. We will train the right applicants to run teleprompter, studio cameras, and generate on-air graphics. Hours per week range from 20-30.
