U.S. marshals reportedly have a lead in the search for prison escapee Clayton Waagner, who once said that he was on a mission from God to kill abortion providers.

Waagner escaped Feb. 22 from the DeWitt County Jail in Clinton, Ill. He is from Kennerdell, Venango County.

A stolen truck was recovered from a Hampton Inn parking lot in State College on April 30. Motel employees reported that the vehicle had apparently been abandoned for several weeks.

Officials believe that Waagner stole a truck from a Clinton gas station after fleeing jail. A pair of overalls matching what Waagner had on when he escaped was found in the truck, DeWitt County Sheriff Roger Massey said.

Waagner was awaiting sentencing on federal charges growing out of a multistate crime spree. He was charged with stealing trucks and firearms and in the holdup of a convenience store in Kentucky.

Waagner is reportedly an abortion clinic stalker, but there have been no reports of threats.

Waagner has been the subject of a massive manhunt ever since his escape. He was arrested Sept. 12, 1999, after crossing into Illinois with his wife and eight children in a stolen Winnebago with four stolen handguns under the driver's seat.

During his two-day trial, Waagner used the insanity defense, saying that he was getting messages from God.

Waagner is known by the aliases Mike Buchanan, Roger Allan Clay, Roger Wagner and Allan Waagner.
