MADISON -

Alexis Thomas shot one-under par 71 to lead defending champion Middleton back to the WIAA State Girls Division One Golf Tournament, winning the sectional at Blackhawk Country Club in Madison Tuesday.

Thomas followed a 36 on the front nine with one-under 35 on the back in leading the Cardinals to the sectional team championship.

Oregon's Taylor McCorkle was the only other player to break 80 in the sectional. That also helped the Panthers to qualify for state as a team.

In addition to Middleton and Oregon qualifying their teams, Beaver Dam's Ashley Kulka (82), Verona's Lauren Shorter (84) and Stoughton's Kelsey Taebel (86) also made it to state as individuals.
