The football field at McFarland High School was named "William J. Rice Field" in honor of Hall of Fame coach Bill Rice Thursday night.

Rice was the head coach of the McFarland football team for 31 years and is a member of the WFCA Hall of Fame. Rice was also a long-time instructor at the school.

McFarland defeated Beloit Turner in the varsity football game, 34-6.

The game was moved to Thursday night with the support of Beloit Turner to allow Rice's family, including his son, Waunakee football coach Pat Rice, to be present for the field naming ceremony.

Bill Rice and his wife, Becky, also celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary Thursday.
