Red Raiders top Wisconsin Lutheran 48-40
Senior forward Cody Wichmann scored 17 points to lead Pulaski to a 48-40 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran, winning the WIAA Division 2 state championship Saturday evening at the Kohl Center.
A day after beating defending champion Onalaska, the Red Raiders (24-4) shot 61.5 percent (16 for 26) and controlled the paint in dominant fashion. Their first 11 baskets were scored under the rim, and they finished with 30 points in the paint.
Senior Deiondre Cunningham scored a game-high 19 points for Wisconsin Lutheran (22-6), which won the 2009 state championship in its only other state appearance. No other Vikings player scored more than eight points.
The state title was Pulaski's first. The Red Raiders lost in the quarterfinals in 1975 and 1989.
