The Poynette girls' softball team is heading to the state championships Saturday as the defending Division 3 state champs, where they will play against Stevens Point Pacelli.
The Pumas took on Algoma on Friday in the semifinals.
It was tied in the bottom of the fifth at 3-3, when Poynette’s Brittany Falk came through with a base hit, allowing McKenna Kelsey to score.
Later in the inning, pitcher Kirsten Tomlinson brought in another run. Poynette won 6-4.
“People know we are the defending champs, so they want to beat us even more, so they are going to try even harder,” Tomlinson said. “So, that puts a little pressure on us because we had to be perfect, and I think we did a good job of that today. It’s a great way to end my senior year with all of my best friends and best teammates in the world.”
