MOUNT HOREB, Wis. -

The fourth-seeded Mount Horeb Vikings overcame the fifth-seed Lakeside Lutheran on Friday in the first round of the WIAA baseball playoffs.

Friday's game was the start of the playoffs with other division 2, 3 and 4 teams hitting the diamonds.

In the bottom of the fourth, Vikings pitcher Weston Zander broke up the scoreless game with a rocket line-drive home run over the left center fence. It was a two-run shot that put Mount Horeb up, 2-0.

In the top of the fifth, the Warriors got the runs back. Tyler Doyle scored from third on the passed ball and the game was tied at 2-2.

By the bottom of the seventh, the game was tied and with two outs and Mount Horeb senior Kyle Esser came up clutch with the base hit through the left side. Pete Hefty sprinted around from second and was called safe after a play at the plate.

Mount Horeb won the game, 3-2.

The Vikings will play top-seed Jefferson on Tuesday.
