The Madison Memorial boys’ soccer team is another win closer to state by defeating Middleton 4-3 at Breitenbach Stadium Thursday.

Middleton had a 1-0 lead in the second half before Memorial’s Ty Pelton-Byce tied the game, which went to a shootout.

Memorial’s keeper, Paul Koebke Barsic, made a save to give his team a chance to win and a kick from Alex Young started the celebration.

Memorial will face Oregon Saturday at 3 p.m. in Waunakee for a chance to advance to state.  Oregon beat Madison West 4-3 Thursday night on penalty kicks.

Madison LaFollette and Fort Atkinson also lost in Division 1 action Thursday.

Division 2 teams Mount Horeb and Evansville advanced to sectionals, which will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in Mount Horeb.  Whitewater lost.

Lakeside Lutheran and Columbus both lost in Division 3 tournament play Thursday.
