Green Bay prepares for WIAA girls basketball
First time tournament held outside of Madison
Thursday, a new era begins in girls basketball in Wisconsin as the WIAA State girls basketball tournament opens at the Resch Center in Ashwaubenon.
The Green Bay area was awarded the tournament as a two-year experiment that begins this week.
Brad Doll of the Green Bay Area Convention and Visitors Bureau says fans have benefitted from the boys tournament staying in Madison and the girls tournament breaking ground in Green Bay..
"Competition makes everyone better," says Doll. "I think this has been a good thing for WIAA. Fans are getting a better deal from Madison, getting a better deal from our area, as we compete with Madison."
Green Bay is rolling out the red carpet with special hotel rates and plenty of parking across the street from the Resch Center at the parking lots at Lambeau Field.
"It does feel like a job interview, but we feel confident going in," says the Chief Operating Officer of PMI Management, Cora Haltaufderheid. "
"We really are giving our best shot and we will make Green Bay proud when this is done."
