Wisconsin Dells tight end Shane Wimann will sign his National Letter of Intent to play football at Northern Illinois Wednesday.
He'll be the football player from Wisconsin Dells High School to get a Division One football scholarship since Jason Manecki went to Wisconsin in 1989.
Wimann is a straight-A student and a two-time basketball player of the year in the South Central Conference.
A year ago, Wimann wasn't really on anyone's football recruiting radar. But the 6-4, 215 pound tight end got plenty of help from his high school football coach, Aaron Mack, who was an assistant coach at Wisconsin a few years ago.
Mack says "there just needed to be that bridge to connect that gap to get his name and his tapes into the right peoples hands."
Now, Wimann will head to Northern Illinois, a team that played in the Orange Bowl last season.
"It's crazy," Wimann said. "It was always my dream to do something like that."
