MADISON, Wis. - Verona stops LaFollette, stays undefeated in Big Eight

The Verona Wildcats girls basketball team won an early season showdown with Madison LaFollette, beating the Lancers 37-24 Tuesday night.

Both teams struggled to score in the first half as Verona took a 15-5 lead at halftime.

It was still a 10-point game after three quarters before the Wildcats outscored LaFollette 14-11 in the fourth quarter to get the victory.

Grace Mueller led Verona with 12 points and Lexy Richardson added 8.

Amelia Grahn led all scorers with 13 points for LaFollette. Anna Lamb added 6 points.

Verona (3-0 Big Eight, 5-0 overall) handed LaFollette (2-1 Big Eight) its first conference loss.

Middleton (3-0 Big Eight) kept pace with the Wildcats as the Cardinals defeated Madison East 71-40 in Middleton Tuesday night.
