UW's Ziegler leads state amateur golf

Badger assistant shoots 66 in opening round

MEQUON, WI - Robbie Ziegler of University Ridge Golf Course shot a 4-under par 66 to lead the 113th Wisconsin State Amateur Championship at Ozaukee Country Club in Mequon.

Ziegler has a two-shot lead over Christopher Colla of Whispering Springs Golf Club.

Ziegler, the assistant coach for the University of Wisconsin men's golf team, had six birdies and two bogeys during his first round.

It is Ziegler's first time competing in the Wisconsin State Amateur Championship after moving to Wisconsin from Oregon. "I just hit it really solid and put it in the right section of the greens," said Ziegler.

He was looking forward to playing with the members of the University of Wisconsin team. "I'm just glad I can get a shot at my players, finally," he said. "I play with them a bit, but everything is different in a tournament."
