APPLETON, Wis. - The Sun Prairie Cardinals are back in the state title game. The Cardinals beat Waunakee and Stoughton Tuesday in day one of the WIAA state tournament at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute.
Sun Prairie will play Stevens Point Thursday night in the division one state finals.
The Cardinals started the day beating Waunkee four nothing. The game started at 8 in the morning but the early start did not affect the Cardinals. They scored 3 runs in the first and Sam Lund tossed a a complete game shut out.
In the semi finals Sun Prairie took on the Stoughton Vikings. The Vikings were back at state for the first time since 1986. Stoughton beat Neenah 4-3 in the quarterfinals. PJ Rosowski laid down a perfect suicide squeeze in the bottom of the 7th. Ben Gerber scored the winning run from third.
But the Cardinals dominated the semi final game beating Stoughton 15-5. The Cardinals have won 23 games in a row.Sun Prairie baseball back in state final
