Madison ranked among Top 10 most bikeable cities
Madison ranked No. 5 on list
Madison ranked No. 5 out of the 10 pilot large cities using a new bikeability rating called Bike Score.
Bike Score measures the bikeability of a location based on the availability of bike lanes, hilliness, road connectivity, nearby amenities and the percent of people in that area who bike to work.
Bike Score is being developed by the creators of Walk Score.
"We are pleased to be included in this group of most bikeable cities," said Arthur Ross, the city’s Pedestrian and Bicycle Coordinator, in a news release.
City staff from many agencies, including Traffic Engineering, City Engineering, Parks, Planning, Streets and Public Health, as well as the Mayor’s Office and the Common Council, have been working diligently to improve conditions for bicycling throughout the city for many years.
Minneapolis finished first on the list followed by Portland, San Francisco and Boston.
