North Carolina A&T 47, Alabama A&M 13: Tarik Cohen and Kwashaun Quick each rushed for two first-half touchdowns as the Aggies cruised past the Bulldogs in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge in Orlando, Fla.
Cohen ran for 161 yards on 10 carries while Quick passed for 94 yards and rushed for 94 more for North Carolina A&T (1-0), which piled up 307 yards on the ground and helped the MEAC improve to 8-2 in the 10-year history of this event. Marquell Cartwright added a short third-quarter rushing score as the Aggies posted their third straight victory of at least 27 points dating to last season.
Jaymason Lee went 9-of-21 for 129 yards before yielding to Brandon Wells, who accounted for the lone touchdown by Alabama A&M (0-1) on a 5-yard toss to Jonathan Dorsey early in the fourth quarter. Freshman Bryan Brower paced the Bulldogs' ground game with 60 yards on 17 carries.
North Carolina A&T was forced to punt on its first two drives, but scored each of the next six times it touched the ball as Quick eluded five tacklers on his way to a 26-yard TD run. The Bulldogs closed within 7-6 on the following possession with Cesar Ramon's second short field goal, but Tony McRae ran the subsequent kickoff back 95 yards for a touchdown as time expired in the first quarter.
Two plays after Alabama A&M failed on a fourth-down try early in the second quarter, Quick gashed the Bulldogs again with a 59-yard jaunt to the end zone before Cohen went untouched up the middle for a 80-yard TD sprint. Cody Jones added a 37-yard field goal to cap North Carolina A&T's next possession and Cohen concluded the run of 31 unanswered points to end the first half with a 3-yard scoring run.
