We don't know who the starting quarterback for the Badger football team will be when it takes the field Saturday morning at 11 for its season opener against Massachusetts.
But it will be quite a surprise if it isn't Joel Stave.
Now, the quarterbacks have been told who is starting and from all we can gather, Stave's had the most reps with the first team offense lately and will probably be the guy. Stave was the starter until he broke his collarbone last season. He's learned some valuable lessons in his battle to be the starting quarterback.
"It really makes you really take everything very seriously. It's a - you're out here to have fun and it's a game, it's a football game but you want to make sure you're doing the right thing - make sure you're not only learning from your reps but from other guys' reps. Coach Andy Ludwig a lot of times says 'steal the rep'.. which means- even if you're not in, watch it, pay attention on what the play call is and make sure you're always getting the most of every opportunity," said Stave.
The redshirt sophomore also feels that he is very comfortable with the new offense under new head coach Gary Andersen.
"I feel very confident leading this offense. I think we have a great plan going into Saturday and the guys we have can really make this offense successful. It was tough not being able to finish the season last year and to get another chance to play is something really special," said Stave.
