The Carolina Panthers signed third-year safety Tom Nelson on Sunday.

Nelson, 27, has played in 24 regular season NFL games, with most of them coming in 2009 and 2010 with the Cincinnati Bengals. In 2009, he had 25 tackles in 12 games (three starts).

Nelson also spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles (2011-2012) and Chicago Bears (2013).

Nelson's signing gives the Panthers seven safeties. However, rookie Tre Boston is on the active/physically unable to perform list.
