Thompson supports Favre return to Green Bay
Says it would be "wonderful" to have a reunion
Packers General Manager Ted Thompson says Brett Favre was "a marvelous, marvelous football player" and Thompson wouldn't stand in the way of Favre having his number retired by the Packers in the near future.
"Surely, like a lot of people have said – Mark Murphy and other people in the organization have said -- this is going to happen," Thompson said Tuesday. "There will be a Brett-coming-back thing and him getting his due honors, as he should. The man played for a very long time here and was a marvelous, marvelous football player and a good person in the community, he and his wife. I think it means a lot for the Packers for Brett Favre to be remembered in a good light. I have no objections at all (to him returning. I'm thrilled."
Many felt Thompson was still bitter about Favre's departure from Green Bay after the 2007 season, but the chill between Favre and the Packers organization has clearly thawed and it appears his number will be retired sooner rather than later.
