Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson said the team is waiting for more information on the playing future of safety Nick Collins.

The 28-year-old Collins suffered a career-threatening neck injury at Carolina last season and had neck fusion surgery in September.

Thompson said Collins is gathering medical advice on his next steps.

Without Collins for much of the season, the Packers gave up an NFL record for passing yardage.

Alabama's Mark Barron is considered one of the best safeties in the draft class, but figures to go long before the Packers use their 28th overall selection.
