ROSEMONT, IL - Wisconsin Badgers senior forward Nigel Hayes has been named the preseason Big Ten player of the year.
Teammates Bronson Koenig and Ethan Happ joined Hayes on the 10-man preseason All-Big Ten team.
Hayes is the fourth Badger in the last 14 seasons to be named preseason player of the year, joining Frank Kaminsky (2014), Alando Tucker (2006) and Devin Harris (2003).
Hayes averaged 15.7 points per game last season and is one of just five players in Wisconsin history to record 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 200 asssists in his career.
Koenig scored 13.1 points per game and was named second team All-Big Ten last season.
Happ was the Big Ten's freshman of the year in the 2015-16 season. He was the second Big Ten freshman in the last 20 years to average at least 11 points, 7 rebounds, an assist and a steal per game.
