SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. - Sun Prairie and Memorial came into Tuesday as the lone undefeateds in the Big Eight Conference. After Memorial's 2-1 road win over the Cardinals, the Spartans stand alone atop the conference.
The harsh winds in Sun Prairie forced sloppy opening moments of action, with the ball repeatedly travelling out of bounds. After both teams settled in, it was a battle between the pipes.
Amelia Heusuk of Memorial and Sun Prairie's Madisyn Kugler staged a highlight reel contest, as both keepers made acrobatic saves.
Late in the first half, the Spartans struck first. Mary Ericsson passed it in from out of bounds, setting up Ruth Lenzen to punch the ball into the back of the net.
Shortly after, the Cardinals responded, Kristal Scott Scored to knot it up at one heading into halftime.
Lenzen scored again in the second half to provide the game winner for the Spartans.
Heusuk stonewalled the Cardinals the rest of the evening in goal and the Spartans got a 2-1 win.
