Mallards win South Division title
Make playoffs for first time since 2008
The Madison Mallards put on a 15-hit attack and defeated the La Crosse Loggers 12-2 Wednesday night to win the Northwoods League South Division first half title.
Mike Reuvekamp had two hits and four RBI while Jeff Zahn and Jason Goldstein both drove in two runs.
Mallards starting pitcher Jordan Tabakman went four and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on six hits. Cam Verbeke went two-and-a-third innings allowing only one hit. Sam Forkert pitched the final two innings and didn't allow a baserunner.
With the win, the Mallards finish the first half of the regular season with a 21-12 record, a game ahead of La Crosse. Lakeshore won Tuesday, so the Chinooks passed the Loggers and finished in second place with a 21-13 record.
The Mallards will be in the Northwoods League playoffs for the first time since 2008.
