Mallards win in Battle Creek

Five-run fifth is the difference

BATTLE CREEK, MI - The Madison Mallards sent 11 men to the plate and scored five runs in the fifth inning to defeat the Battle Creek Bombers, 7-3 Monday night in Battle Creek.

Mike Fitzgerald led off the fifth with a home run and the Mallards added two-run singles by Erik Forgione and Drew Weeks.

Mallards starting pitcher Greg Welch picked up his third win of the season allowing only two runs and three hits in five innings.

The Mallards (11-7) face the Bombers (10-9) in the second game of their series Tuesday night.
