IOWA CITY, Iowa - Iowa 72, Minnesota 51: Roy Devyn Marble scored 13 of his 15 points in the first half as the host Hawkeyes overcame a dismal start to down the Golden Gophers and collect their third straight win.
Aaron White added 15 points for Iowa (17-9, 6-7 Big Ten), which moved into a tie with Minnesota for sixth in the conference standings.
Austin Hollins scored 14 points and Trevor Mbawke added 13 for the Gophers (18-8, 6-7). Minnesota has lost three of its past four games.
The Gophers made a concerted effort to pound the ball inside with Mbakwe early and he rewarded them with eight points during a game-opening 23-8 run. The Hawkeyes turned to a 2-3 zone at that point and saw their fortunes change almost immediately as they closed the half on a 26-6 run.
With Mbawke neutralized and Minnesota's leading scorer Andre Hollins battling foul trouble, Iowa stayed with its zone defense after the break and held the Gophers to 32 percent shooting in the second half, increasing its five-point halftime lead to a 22-point bulge late in the contest.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Iowa recorded its first three-game conference winning streak since 2007. … Minnesota senior F Rodney Williams logged 10 minutes and did not play at all in the second half per coach's decision. Williams, who was held scoreless for the first time since his freshman year, has been dealing with a shoulder injury. … The Gophers shot 36.2 percent from the floor – the fourth straight game they failed to hit 40 percent of their field goal attempts.
