Mount Horeb defeats Edgewood in girls soccer

Vikings to play Green Bay Notre Dame on Friday

WAUNAKEE, Wis. - Mount Horeb High School girls' soccer team shut down Madison Edgewood on Saturday in the Division 2 sectionals.

It was scoreless early in the second half when off a free kick, Ellyn Hayden sent it in. Freshman Cassie Handrick guided it in the goal.

The Vikings won 1-0 to punch their ticket to state for the first time ever in girls soccer. Some of the players said that they want to make the most of the opportunity.

"It's not going to be the end," said Hayden. "We're going to state. That's, hopefully, we're going to win. I've got faith in us. I believe we can do it as long as we work together."

Mount Horeb will play Green Bay Notre Dame in the Division 2 semifinals on Friday at 1 p.m. at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee.
