LA CROSSE, Wis. - The first Wisconsin high school track and field meet was held at Camp Randall Stadium on June 8, 1895.
One hundred nineteen years later the meet is still going. There are three divisions for boys and girls.
This marks the 25th year it's been in La Crosse at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Here are some results from the Division 1 events this morning, and most were preliminary races.
Madison Memorial's Daurice Fountain is the defending champion in 110 high hurdles and he qualified with the top time for Saturday's final.
He also finished second in the Division 1 boys' long jump. His best jump was 23 feet 5 inches. First place was a quarter of an inch longer.
He also qualified for Saturday's 300 meter hurdle final. The senior is just enjoying his last high school event.
"I am just trying to have fun. You know, it's my last year here so I just want to go out with a big bang and just have fun overall," said Fountain.
Middleton's Ernest Winters won his heat in the Division 1 100 meter dash in a time of 11.12 seconds. It's the fifth fastest time going into the final tomorrow.
"I feel like that can set me up for tomorrow. I didn't get out hard like I thought I could but I know I can get out tomorrow and my adrenaline will be rushing tomorrow because it's going to be be finals," said Winters.
Baraboo's freshman Josie Schaefer fought through some nerves in her first state appearance and finished fifth in the girls' Division 1 discus with her best toss of 128 feet 5 inches.
"I was very nervous with all the great throwers. It definitely gets your heart pumping way more than normal and it tenses you up and it's crazy," said Schaefer.
Monroe's Ethan Moehn wins the Division 2 1600 meter run (4:9.56) and sets a new Division 2 boys record.
The Dodgeville Mineral Point girls 3200 Meter Relay team wins in 9:22.67.
