Pirates pound Brewers, 7-1

Byrd's three-run homer paces Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH - Marlon Byrd hit a three-run homer to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 7-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers Wednesday night in Pittsburgh.

The Pirates got to Brewers starter Tom Gorzelanny (3-6) for a run in the first inning when Andrew McCutchen's single drove in Josh Harrison.

In the fourth, Gaby Sanchez made it 2-0 with a single to score McCutchen.

Pittsburgh scored two more in the fifth on Harrison's single and a double by Jordy Mercer.

After Scooter Gennett scored the Brewers first run in the top of the seventh on an error by Russell Martin, Byrd answered in the bottom of the inning with his three-run homer off Burke Badenhop.

Charlie Morton (7-2) pitched six and two-thirds innings to get the win, allowing five hits and one unearned run.
