The Pittsburgh Pirates spoiled the major league debut of Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Johnny Helweg in a 10-3 win in Pittsburgh Friday night.
Helweg got through the first inning retiring all three batters, but then ran into trouble in the second.
With the Brewers leading 3-0, the Pirates scored seven times in the bottom of the second.
Neil Walker's two-run double started the scoring. Starling Marte followed with an RBI single to right. Russell Martin, Andrew McCutchen and Pedro Alvarez drove in runs after that. The inning was capped off by another RBI double by Marte.
Hellweg (0-1) lasted just one and two-thirds innings allowing six hits, two walks and seven runs - five of them earned.
Garrett Cole (4-0) went six innings for the Pirates giving up three runs on eight hits.
Carlos Gomez and Juan Francisco had two hits apiece to lead the Brewers offense. Jonathan Lucroy's double was the only extra-base hit in the Brewers' 10-hit attack.
