Brewers still searching for first baseman

Hart's departure opens opportunities

MILWAUKEE - The Brewers are still looking for a replacement for Prince Fielder at first base.

He left as a free agent after the 2011 season. Milwaukee thought Corey Hart would fill the position but he missed last season with a knee injury and has since left as a free agent.

So the plan heading into spring training is to mix and match at a position that's traditionally a position of offensive strength for a team.

Potential candidates include veterans Mark Reynolds and Lyle Overbay, who were signed to minor-league deals in the last month.

General Doug Melvin says he likes how his team is seemingly set at key positions up the middle with center fielder Carlos Gomez, shortstop Jean Segura and catcher Jonathan Lucroy.
