Spartans clinch big 8 title outright with win

Memorial wins conference outright beating Sun Prairie

Sun Prairie, WIS. - The Memorial boys basketball team beat Sun Prairie 50-45 in a big 8 basketball game Thursday night in Sun Prairie. It was the Spartans first game back since the sudden death of beloved principal Bruce Dahmen.

The Spartans clinched the big 8 conference title outright with the win. They are now 15-1 in conference. Tyler Lindquist had 14 points as Memorial outscored the Cardinals 20-11 in the fourth quarter.

Memorial principal Bruce Dahmen died of a heart attack Tuesday. It was difficult for the team to play Thursday night but they said it's what he would have wanted.

"You know he is here with us in spirit right now. It was tough coming out here today and play this game but we wanted to come do this for him. You know we have one goal right now, and we want to win that gold ball for him and bring it home for him, he loved basketball," said Lindquist.
