MADISON - Senior Mary Massei was named as a first-team All-Big Ten selection, while fellow senior Michelle Mueller and sophomore Taylor-Paige Stewart were named to the conference's second team, the Big Ten announced Wednesday.
It's the second straight year Massei has been a first-team All-Big Ten selection and the third time she's been honored by the conference, as she was a second-team All-Big Ten player in 2011 as a freshman.
Massei led the Badgers with a .387 batting average and 63 hits. Massei has a number of UW school softball records.
She has the highest career batting average (.373), the best on-base percentage (.432), the most hits (243), the most runs (139), the most doubles (52) and the most triples (14). Massei's 124 RBI ranks second in program history, while her 22 home runs are tied for third.
Mueller, a native of La Crosse, has enjoyed a career year for the Cardinal and White, tying school records in home runs with 11 and RBI with 49. Earlier this year, the Badgers' third baseman became the first player in program history to be named the NFCA Player of the Week and the USA Softball Player of the Week after the slugger hit four home runs and collected 18 RBI during a five-game stretch.
Stewart went 14-5 in the regular season record and a 7-1 conference ledger. The Calabasas, California, native has 118 strikeouts while giving up 121 hits in 138 innings of work while opponents held a .231 batting average against her.
