Seven different players score for Wisconsin

MADISON - Seven differnent Badgers scored goals as the Wisconsin men's hockey team defeated Penn State 7-1 at the Kohl Center Friday night.

It was the first home game for Wisconsin in the new Big Ten men's hockey conference.

Grant Besse opened the scoring in the first period and a minute later, Frankie Simonelli added a goal to make it 2-0 Badgers.

Penn State's Tommy Olczyk made it 2-1 midway through the first period, then the Badgers went on a scoring tear in the second and third periods.

Michael Mersch and Tyler Barnes scored in the second period, and Nic Kerdiles, Joseph LaBate and Brad Navin scored in the third period to give the Badgers a convincing win.

Joel Rumpel stopped 27 of 28 shots in goal for Wisconsin.

The Badgers and Nittany Lions wrap up their series Saturday night at 8 at the Kohl Center.
