Badger Football Team starts Fall Camp

Monday marks first Fall Camp under Gary Andersen

Madison, Wis. - It was another first for Badger head football coach Gary Andersen Monday. The team held its first fall practice.

The music was blaring the entire time and it was all systems go-even a little rain -- just two short hours. The first day went pretty well according to the first year head coach.

"Lots of energy lots of excitement which is great. Lots of mistakes, the young guys played hard, they need to understand how to practice at our tempo and move around the way we do. It wasn't a matter of want too a simple matter of learning. I thought the old guys were crisp," said Gary Andersen.

Six quarterbacks wore black jerseys in practice but it figures to be a three-way race between Joel Stave, Curt Phillips and transfer Tanner McEvoy.

"I didn't focus completely on the quarterbacks so we will go back in and evaluate the film tonight and see where it sits. This will be a process but not one day is going to make a starter but every day is unbelievably important for those three as we continue through camp," said Andersen.

The Badgers season and home opener is Saturday Aug. 31 against UMass. It's an 11 a.m. kickoff.
