DARLINGTON, Wis. -

The odds of a football player from Darlington, Wisconsin making it to the NFL are slim.

But Alex Erickson has beaten the odds his entire career.

When Erickson made the opening day roster for the Cincinnati Bengals, it completed a remarkable football journey.

He was a quarterback at Darlington High School, walked on to the Wisconsin Badger football team, then signed with the Bengals as an undrafted free agent.

"He was always a good athlete, he has developed into a great athlete," says his high school coach, Scott Zywicki. "Went from a 4.6-something that he ran here to 4.4 at his pro day - that's through nothing but hard work and determination"

Erickson's success also inspires current athletes in Darlington to pursue their dreams.

Hunter Johnson will also walk-on to the Badger football program next year.

"Coming from a small town, everybody kinda just throws you under the belt, but Alex, he beat the odds."
