Badger basketball hires Dean Oliver as assistant coach

Former Iowa star replaces Lamont Paris

MADISON - Dean Oliver was named an assistant coach for the Wisconsin Badgers men's basketball program Thursday.

Oliver was an All-Big Ten guard at the University of Iowa and had a nine-year professional playing career that included a stop in the NBA for the Golden State Warriors from 2001-2003.

Oliver has been a college assistant at North Dakota (2012-14) and Illinois State (2015-2017).

Oliver replaces Lamont Paris who was named head coach at Chattanooga earlier this month.

Head coach Greg Gard said, “we are really excited to welcome Dean back to the Big Ten and the Wisconsin basketball family. I have been impressed with him over the years and after getting to know him better through this process, it became easy to see why he has been so successful in the past as a player and most recently as a coach. Everyone I talked to about Dean had the utmost respect for his leadership, teaching abilities and passion for helping student-athletes."
